Post subject:  Jib Fore/Aft Lead

I have only sailed this boat briefly a few times. Should the jib fore/aft lead be in front of or behind the mast rotation preventor cleat which is just slightly forward of the shroud?

It depends on how your boat is setup and how the jib trims when sailing. Sheet the jib in tight on an upwind setting. Then slowly turn into the wind. Upper and lower telltails on the windward side of the sail should break at the same time. If the uppers break early or the top of the sail luffs when going upwind, then you need to slide the cars forward.

The stock setup from Hobie had the jib leads mounted behind the rotator cleats, but I recall on our boat we had to move in front of the cleats for the jib to trim properly.

You can also remove the rotator cleats entirely from the tramp rail and setup rotation control from the boom, similar to the H17/H18. It is a simpler arrangement that doesn’t get “one sided” as the stock H20 setup can do and also allows more options with jib lead position.
