Post subject:  Crossbar End Cap Grommets?

Hi Experts,

My used Hobie Tiger just had holes in the plastic end caps for the trapeze bungee to go through, which of course chews up the bungee before too long. I put some rubber grommets in place but they are quickly wearing down with use. From the instruction book, the Tiger looks to originally have had some kind of plastic grommet in those holes, and the Wildcat instructions show some kind of stainless steel grommet in the crossbar cap holes. There is no separate part listed for either of these, so I'm looking for where I could buy something that would provide the smooth surface guidance that those plastic or stainless grommets provide.

Thanks!

Mark

Ok...here was solution and it worked out great. I found 3/4" PVC electrical conduit pieces at my Lowes and cut them down to the width I needed.

Using my band saw, I cut about half of the length off of the bushing piece, and about 1/4" off of the end of a coupler.

I then made a cut in each so I could spread them open over the lines and insert into 3/4" holes in the end cap. On the back side, I spread the cut circles over the lines and glued in place with PVC cement.

I took a file and filed off the rough edges on the inside so the lines would have a smooth surface to run against, and here is the finished project:
