Hi my name is Jim and live in Sydney Australia.

I was crewing on 38- and 42 foot mono hulls for about 5 years, when Covid hit that all ended so I recently purchased a Tiger.
Its the first sail boat and cat I have ever owned, I have had it out a few times and my Lady and I are starting to gain confidence.
At the moment I am sailing it to more her level as I don't want to scare her off, but its also giving me time getting used to being in control of everything.

I am using it more at a social level and will probably never race it.
My question on mono hulls if we want to point up higher into the wind we pull the main traveler higher up , The Tiger and all other hobies only come
halfway up the beam.

To save me rigging something up for a fail has anyone tried this.

Jim

Catamarans and monohull keel boats are very different animals.

Catamarans don’t point into the wind as high as monohulls, but they sail much faster and with much higher apparent wind speeds. For this reason, you would essentially never want to have your traveler pulled past the centerline of the main beam. I would suggest that you keep it rigged to the stock setup.

2nd on what Steve said.

Welcome to the wild side.
Cats tend to tack like pigs and then fly when reaching.

See if you can get hold of the book, Higher Performance Sailing II by Dr Bethwaite, father of Julian, the 18 Skiff Champion.
When you get a better understanding of sailing with the apparent wind, you will fly.

I've also learnt a lot from Joe Bennett's videos, go to YouTube and look up JoyRider TV.

keep safe
