OK racers...
what's the prefered brand and diameter of jib sheet and why?
and shame on me for only caring about the back of the boat until now
BTW, what comes on the new boats?

OK racers... what's the prefered brand and diameter of jib sheet and why? and shame on me for only caring about the back of the boat until now

I use a Maffioli "clone" like Yale/Conception, a Dynema/Polypropylene Blend ... does not "hold" water, very soft, light and approximently 1/2 the price of Maffioli/Swiftcord. It runs "large" so I have 1/4" for the jibsheet and 5/16 for the Mainsheet on my H18 and P19MX. I may even go one size smaller yet on both sheetlines. Really nice stuff .... New England(?) Salsa is nice line also, one of my friends uses that on his boat and loves it ..... |

I don't know what comes on the new boats - mine's purple and it works fine. It's sknny, too. Gets caught between the mast base and the step. Can you tell I spend a lot of time at the back of the boat? 
I had 5/16 Swiftcord on the old boat. Great hand feel, but it's almost too light and floppy. Tended to wrap around itself. Before that, I had Marstron. It's cheap, but it wears out quick. Rich McVeigh is the rope junkie. I think he's tried every brand / style out there. |

Come on Matt, a techy like you must know much more. I know from looking at a picture that my jib sheet is blue and the main is red. Maybe I'd be faster with a better color combo.

Paul Hess had two different colored sheets,one for the port side and one for starboard.Not sure how he rigged it. |

When I first got my boat the jib was rigged that way, with two colors for each side of the boat. It was set up similar to the main, where one end controled the saild and the other controlled the traveler. I didn't really like it. I now have one sheet to control the jib, and two sheets to control the main that are tied of to the shrouds. I think I actually have some pics of the old set-up if anyone is interested. |

What's on mine now is 1/4", something, red with blue tracer. The consensus complaint seems to be it's too stiff. I love Salsa on the back end but afraid of buying something too floppy (nice choice of words Matt) for the front. |

I'd like to see some pics, Abbman. I never read the book.....always wait for the movie. Not sure if I understand your description......and I'm always interested in concepts I might be unfamiliar with. So, by all means, the photos please.

John, I soak my lines in a bucket of Arm and Hammer"Baking Soda" .... I'll add alittle "Woollite" and "OxiClean" also .... change the water often. Some off my friends wash their lines in the family cloths washer to clean and soften their lines .... BUT I do not recommend you doing this when the "lady" of the house is around .... the word "conniption" comes to mind. .... you know if it's stiff for greater then four hours .... please go see your Doctor as it maybe a ... |

There are two lines for each side of the boat, typical to the current set up I think. The difference in the way I currently have it set up is that I tie the traveler sheet to the shroud. My bad, I remembered it differently. |

I've tried so many different lines in the past but i realy like the climing rope in blue ridge mountain sports, its cheaper and runs through the blocks really smooth, all different sizes available too. just my peronal preference plus i'm a cheapskate |
