Made by Rooke?

Not class legal.

The only "legal" sails in north America are built here in Oceanside.

Thanks Matt so Hobie has not lisensed patterns to any sailmakers in north America? Good to know thanks. My set of Rooke's are very old just checking before I go out and pick a new/used set, anything to look for Hobie trade mark ect.

Class legal sails

The Hobie H of course, Class number circle with the "16". We also have a small patch in the tack area that says class legal or something like that. Older sails just had a hobie logo patch there. Really old sails might have a "Mckibben" patch there. I think that is how it is spelled anyway. That was the original loft and later Hobie absorbed it into its factory.

Is there anything not class legal about having a window added to a 16 jib? Just curious, as my sails are at the loft right now.

My jib has an MC sticker that is slowly coming off. Don't remember ever seeing one on the main. ;)

So my McKibbin Sails are class legal?

They came with my 75 16.

However I SHOULD be getting a new boat this summer, so this question may have a short life :D

I think it's safe to say with the exception of the totally-aluminum mast, "if it came with the boat, it's class legal." Am I right, Matt?

Class Legal?

That should work... Factory supplied is factory supplied regardless of the age. I can't think of something on a 16 that would not be legal other than the mast without CompTip and an aluminum tiller.

You're not thinking really old school, Matt.

The first 14's and 16's came with wooden battens.

There was even a "recall" by Hobie of those battens to be replaced with the now-standard fiberglass ones.

There were originally 4 sail lofts making sails for Hobie Cats. Hobie bought a 1/2 interest in McKibbin and consolidated their production to them in the early 70's.

(Can you tell I've been reading the old Hotlines that Mary Wells sent me? )
