Post subject:  Race with us in San Diego on New Year's Day

This used to be the largest open class multihull event on the west coast and is usually dominated by Hobie Cats. Lets make it big like it used to be.

Mark your calendars now for Sunday, January 1, 2006. The race is run by San Diego Yacht Club and is basically a tour of San Diego Bay. The launch is at Shelter Island launch ramp and there is ususally a gathering at San Diego Yacht club after the event (informal no host).

What better way to start the New Year than sailing in San Diego?

Now why would I do that? So I could sit and watch what I think is the back of your head on that little speck of a boat on the horizon? :)

Glad to know you will be there. Do you thing Matt will sail with Tate this year?

I'll send it out when they post it.

Anyone else care to watch Greg sailing away from the fleet on New Years Day?

Hi Hammond,

Don't forget the San Diego Classic point regatta, held in Coronado Sep 10th - 11th.

I will be there!

I will also be in Santa Barabara for the Wine and Roses regatta in Aug... Will you be going to either of these events?

Heck yes I will be at the classic. Unfortunately, the other two regattas are not in the picture this year. I have two and four year old sons so regattas are not the priority for the time being.

We all sail together on a regular basis, but the boys are not yet ready for the big time. We have sailed as a family at MBYC for the Thursday night TNT races, but about half of this short course race is about all they can handle right now. They love the sailing, but they get cold too quickly. Not to worry, their/our time will come. When it does, it will be one design racing all the way, and on multihulls, that means Hobie Cat!!! They will probably start on the wave and graduate to the 16 when it's time. Only a few more years now. :D

Well thats cool!

I will definately be in Coronado for the SD Classic. I hear it is one event you do not want to miss (I've even bailing on a amateur radio convention that I allready have tickets for).

Too bad we can't get some more people from the forums from around the country to show up... Perhaps I can fly over to Qatar in my 747-400, and pick up Jamie. His Hobie 14 and 16 would fit nicely in the cargo hold :P

Though the approach into KSAN would be a bit interesting

The real question, will Matt Miller sail the classic this year on a 16. If so, will it be with Sue or Tate or both?

Well Matt, are you coming? Will Ruth and Jim be on the power skiff? Will Doug be there racing? Only time will tell.

OK,
It's really sad to reply repeatedly to my own posting, but I have a few updates. Greg Thomas and wonder crew Jacques are going to be racing with us on New Years Day along with Brandon "Crash" Wallace and his super crew James. Brandon and James are top I-20 sailors. If we can have a few more Tiger teams, there will be an even better chance that we will have a few more teams beating them boat for boat along with corrected time. One more year of bragging rights.

The San Diego Yacht Club has posted the notice of race and on-line entry form. Please sign up as it will help the race commitee to know how many boats will be in each start. The race commitee sets a huge line to accomodate the maxi boats that start after us, but lets have enough boats to fill this large line.

For more info, See the open forum information. :P :P

The results are posted on the SDYC.org web page. The A-Class won and the H-16s sailed a different course. Jeff Collins should have won, but was scored OCS (over early, on course side). He was sailing a Hobie 20. We all had a lot of fun, hope to see more there next year.
