Anyone have this problem? Rip in sail sleeve below strap that attaches float bob at top of mast. Been quoted about $50-$60 to have it repaired.

Looks to me like perhaps your downhaul is pulled too tight. Also, I suggest you remove any downhaul tension on the sail when stored, otherwise, excessive downhaul tension could happen due to heat expansion of the mast/sail thus causing excessive stress in the area you've pointed out. Also, could be a manufacturing defect in that the mast bob attachments on the sail are too low on the sail; just a thought. |

Thanks for your ideas... I also suspect that some of my more spectacular wipeouts stressed the 'bob' attachment straps. In any case, back in business with the sail sleave repaired and a strip of sailcloth added to reinforce the straps. So, we'll see... Although I've been sea kayaking all winter, I got out for my first sail of the season today, and it was great. (Wet suit, big time - water 36 deg F. / 2 deg C.) |
