Post subject:  Hobie Bravo Mast Hinge/Gate Assembly Failure

The central hinge point rivet on my Bravo (original design) mast hinge/gate assembly failed while underway last week. Luckily the "furler strap" was in place and actually kept the mast upright while I limped back to the dock.

I would like to replace the gate assembly. The part number on the Bravo parts guide says:

Hinge/GateAssy Original Style 90500021

However, when I search online for that part number, all the vendors that carry it have a picture of the new gate design. And the parts guide is pretty explicit about the new not being compatible with the old.

Can I get a replacement the gate assembly for the original design? If so, what is the part number and where can I buy it? If not, what are my options?

That is the correct number for the old gate assembly. It has the bar and the hinge. The image is not showing the hinge.

OK. Thanks. I'm still a little confused though because the one I have has two hinge points and two straight bars. (I wish I could figure out how to upload a picture here.) We bought our boat in May of 2012. Maybe I actually have the new design? What is the part number for the new part?

The solid bar is the original.

Yes! The one with a hinge in the bar is the newer one.

The one you need is:

Center hinge rivet sheared off on my Bravo (2011 version) some years back. Used a clevis pin and ring ding as a replacement. Works fine. (If the hinge rivet went on you, this may be in store for you: I also had the screw that connects the vertical support tube to the A-Frame shear off another time -- that was more dramatic & I needed to lash the mast to the [broken] A-Frame behind an island, then hobble back to the beach.)
