I noticed that lifeguard stations in Italy often have what looks like an orange colored Bravo hull with stand up (forward facing) oarlock configurations. Seems like a nice alternate use of maybe a worn out Bravo rig. You can find pix on the internet, but rarely videos. Look at forward facing rowing in Venice (not the gondola single oars); they go really fast and look less back breaking. The bravo clones usually have a seat (only) ahead of the rower where the victim sits. Search for Italian rescue boat or catamaran pictures if interested. |

I've come across similar rescue setups in some coastal towns to, those forward-facing rowing systems seem pretty efficient, especially when speed and visibility are important. The Bravo hull does seem like a good candidate for repurposing into a rescue catamaran with a stand-up rowing configuration. I looked up a few of those Italian lifeguard boats and noticed they often use a sliding seat or fixed seat, depending on the design, and the oarlocks are mounted pretty far forward. Definitely not the typical rear-facing rowing most of us are used to. I’ll actually be heading to Venice later this year and plan to explore more of this through a local guide I booked via https://gowithguide.com/Italy/venice/guides Hoping to catch a closer look at how these boats are used in practice. Curious if anyone here has tried retrofitting a Bravo like this? |
