Hello, last week I was given a Hobie 21. Boat is in decent condition. The owner didn’t have a ton of info, but said it was a 21se with a mast either cut down to 29 feet or a mast from another boat. Sails and rigging all in good shape. What I don’t get it the wing design on this boat and if it is an SE, how do the hulls telescope apart? I took a few pictures. Perhaps someone here can help.

Thank you.

That is a 21SE - but those wings have been altered.

I concur. Looks like the wings were altered for 2 reasons; 1) To fix the leaking wing sockets (they're sealed or glued in), and 2) they aren't needed to be removable to tow boat. Also guessing the plastic pipe stuff is either to keep feet from slipping in when on the wire or stuff falling overboard. Still, the hulls look original and solid from the pics, and you've got an aftermarket trampoline. Probably good bones there. The mast float is something I've never seen.

Measure the overall width. It looks like the boat is partially expanded. The dolphin striker support looks close to the hulls. Maybe the made a cushion width modification for some reason?
