Last weekend I was sailing my Hobie 21 SE alone at Higgins Lake in Northern Michigan when I spotted three kayaks out in the middle of the lake with one of them full of water with the frightened kayaker swimming next to it. I pulled up and said can I help you? Who would of thought a big sailboat would stop and help someone... It was two young boys and their father in the water. I said jump on my front hull ..catch your breath and I will pull your boat up on my sailboat and dump the water out. In about one minute, I had the kayak dumped out and back on the water ready for the father to get back into his dry kayak... They were all amazed. I shook his hand and said I'm Jim and he said I'm Jason and he said I can't believe you just saved my life. I told him that's what boaters do for each other... as I said "have a nice day" sailing off along my way. |
