Hello I purchased a 21 se recently that has not been sailed for sometime. I am looking at the block set up and I believe I do not have the original parts. 1. The parts manual suggests there is a tie off to the lower block ( via a becket ?) My lower block does not have this option. 2. In addition the upper and lower blocks have different track widths. 3. the upper blocks are attached to the boom with a twist shackle this can't be correct but I do not see in the parts manual what shackle hobie is recommending. 4. the front post is slightly bent back. We were able to raise the mast. and then placed the clevis pin in. At the end of the season is it SAFE to lower the mast without the clevis pin. Any help with these concerns would be appreciated. I would be happy to purchase from a parts boat if supplies are available. Steve |

Don't lower the mast without the clevis pin. It will pop up off the ball, and very probably damage the mast, not to mention people. Sorry, can't remember the block layout without looking. |

Hi Stillsailing, 1. Where on the boat are you looking? At the mast? In the mast track I have two blocks, one for the downhaul and one for the spinnaker halyard. 2. Again, not sure what you are looking at, the only tracks on my boat are for the jib sheet block. 3. the only twist shackle I can think of is the downhaul. It has a double block, and it attaches to the tack of the main sail and runs through the preventer to the two little cheek blocks on the mast. 4. Yeah, that can happen when the mast doesn't stay turned 90deg while raising or lowering the mast. As Tom says, you MUST have the ball pinned when you raise or lower the mast. I leave mine in with no ill effects. I rather like the idea that the mast can't dislocate in case of a turtle. Which happened this last weekend. Todd |
