Hello, The mast base on my 21 SC has had part of it shear off. Not a lot, but.... It looks like the part number is 36641031. I am going to call tackle Shack this afternoon to see if they can order one. Any tips on R&R? I am guessing that I have to drill out the rivets. Should the old one slide off without too much trouble? Is there a sleeve? What size stainless rivets will I need for the new one? Thanks, Tim |

The mast base is held in place with rivets and some glue. The glue gets soft when it is hot. Drill out the rivets. Heat the mast base and try to remove it. Heat the mast base and try to remove it. I have had some success wedging a flat head screwdriver between the mast base and the extrusion. There should be a foam plug a little ways up from the bottom of the mast. Try not to hurt it, make sure it is still good. Install the new part, if you can find one.... I use some silicone caulk. I typically use aluminum rivets, to avoid galvanic corrosion issues. Occasionally hobie specifies SS rivets due to high loads. Ultimately I should follow what hobie recommends, and so should everyone else... ~Joe |

The loads while stepping a mast can shear aluminum rivets. Yes... 36641031 MAST BASE, H21 SE & SC Only difference is on the front that was for a rotation stop on the 21 Sport Cruiser. |
