Post subject:  21SC Boom and Sails

I recently acquired a 1997 Sport Cruiser, Serial #945. Amazingly the former owner had the gennaker but not the other important bits like boom, main sail and jib. It looks like there are a couple companies that can make the sails but the boom is hard to come by. After looking at the Hobie Parts Guides, it appears the 21SC boom uses the same end caps and aluminum extrusion as 21SC forward tramp bar and even a H16 boom.

Are there any 21SC owners out there that could verify the similarity between the H16 and 21SC boom stock? Also what the length of the 21sc boom is. I'd like to find out if I could modify an H16 boom as they are cheap to pick up used.

I've found that Whirlwind and SLO both offer replacement 5 or 6oz Dacron sails. Are there suggestions for any other sail makers that could produce an inexpensive main and jib that I should consider?

Thanks for everyone's help.

The 16 boom extrusion is the same. The attachment to the mast and everything else is different.

We happen to have a 21SC boom in stock:

This appears to have the crankshaft. You would need a crank to make it work as a furling boom.

These are also in stock!

Matt thanks for the speedy reply. This gives me a fall back plan and it's nice to know Hobie is still providing support for these older models. I'm still curious if a H16 boom would be long enough to accommodate the foot of a H21sc sail. I'm fortunate that the crank assembly was left on the mast so with a little work I could get a working boom on the cheap.

Interesting, I PRESUMED (you know what that does), that the extrusion between the 21 SE and SC were the same - they sure don't look like it! Certainly rigged vastly different to take advantage of the mainsail furling feature.

Is the 18 the same boom as the 21SE?

Awesome you STILL have 21SC parts in stock! Wow, after all these years.
