As you can see this mast float has a crack in it. How you repair this? I don't even know if it needs repair. If this was a leaking fuel tank on a plastic chainsaw I would use my soldering iron to melt the plastic and mend the crack. I don't know if that works for mast floats. I just depends on the plastic. Mast float 1 Mast float 2 Another thing that seems odd to me is that there is no vent to equalise pressure when the temperature changes. A gore-tex vent would do it. Or is that not necessary? |

The Bob on the H21 is foam core fiberglass, so no vent is needed. Unless the fin is loose, no repair is needed. |

Not mine - it's rotomolded or blow molded polyethylene. Probably cross linked poly, meaning the only way to "fix" it is West Systems G-flex epoxy. It needs to be repaired, as that crack goes through the skin. The G-flex will do it; won't be pretty. |

Now that you mention it, my bob does have a very distinct parting line that is not present on dhaglund's bob. |

Weird. I'd RATHER have glass. Lighter and way more repairable. Plus you can paint it...put nose art on it... |

These would be linear poly, so weldable. |

If I were to split the bob along the line I would end up with two identical halves (one mirrored). The parting line may be a bit less distinct since I sanded it down a little. |

I have the same one. However it's molded, they apparently leave an opening in the tail of it that's later covered up with some kind of material (urethane foam like stuff?). When mine got poked/opened up there, I just removed it all and put in a rubber stopper that had a lip on it. I think it was actually some kind of plug you get from the hardware store. Easy. Matt had good news: this lastic is relatively easily weldable. You can get the plastic filler sticks on-line, like from ebay, etc. Just make sure you get the ones made out of linear polyethylene. You can even get matching color. Lots of youtube videos of how to do it. I've only done this once, so will defer from here. |
