Hobie Mirage i14t - what would cause multiple location adhesive/glue failure? port tube and starboard tube have failed at seam of tube where it meets black bottom (yellow vinyl to black vinyl seam, and air tube seam). 5 of 8 lift handle pads have completely come loose or partially loose, steering control device partially loose, lift and stow controls pad completely loose, seat attachment d-ring pads completely loose. Basically it looks like something affected the adhesive to cause it to fail in adhesion. Any ideas? Kayak is essentially coming apart at the seams. Thanks BK |

How old is the boat? Age an UV are issues with all inflatable products. |

Did you store the yak in a garage or storage unit with gasoline stored also? sound like a chemical reaction and the glue returned to a liquid state. Gasoline or other solvent products might have been the problem with so many defects at one time... If you find out what happened please post back up and report. Thanks |

I stored mine one summer in RV basement on the sun side. I had a similar result. I think heat accelerated the glue life. I plan to store in as cool a place I can in the future summers! Mine was rarely in the sun for long and never near solvent I noticed even the hard plastic secure parts were deformed and I had to use a heat gun to warm them up and reform to the tube curves. |

We have a 2009 Mirage i14T and has come apart just like the previous person reported. It has ALWAYS been stored in the garage. We are in Florida, but our garage is not scorching hot. We have someone cut our grass so there is no need to have fuel in our garage. We took the boat out for maybe 8 hours on day trips, and I think only went on 5 trips. The rest of the time it has been in the garage. We need to know how to repair it. The Hobie instructions say that if there are major openings that we have to contact Hobie. We stored this kayak on a furniture-grade PVC rack. |
