Hi, I'm Allen,

my girlfriend and I just bought a pair of New, old stock I9's (2011 serial numbers) from a Hobie dealer near us.

Took them out on the lake yesterday for the first time. came i after two hours of fun, found that mine had about 2 gallons of water in the bilge. these boats are unused per the dealer.

inspected the bottom, didn't see any tears.

fluke? leak? cause? suggestions?

Thanks for your help,
Allen

Did you possibly pump air into the capped hole at the front? That could be a problem where the bilge drain is inflated and the chamber expands and fails a glue bond in the scupper area. The forward one is a drain only.

nope, we didn't. read the forum here, and my dealer put a sticker up front warning not too inflate there.

this was on display, who knows how long. is it possible that there's scupper damage just from being moved around the dealership? we're going to go out again today.

If we have the same issue, i'm going to head to the dealer Monday.

So, the service department at Lancaster County Marine inspected the bottom of the boat and found that the port scupper flange has about 1/3 not glued down. They suspect this is the leak and emailed their contact at Hobie. Awaiting a response on how to proceed.

Regards,
Allen

p.s. why isn't "Hobie" part of this forum's vocabulary? the internal spellcheck flags it with a squiggly red line...

It suggests "Hobbit", lol.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed.

The dealer sent the warranty claim with pictures before/by noon eastern time, and no response all day.

The dealer has your kayak warranty info - and I understand you're being taken care of. Thanks.
