Post subject: | Steering issue using i11s as an SUP |
I’ve got a new i11s which I love. One of the reasons I got it was it’s convertibility to an SUP. I have only used it that way twice, and have only been on regular solid rented SUPs twice. What I noticed is that it seems difficult to maintain a straight path. It turns immediately towards whichever side I paddle on. Although not 100% consistent, it will often do this on the first stroke resulting in a zigzag across the water. Is there a specific paddle technique? I didn’t notice this issue on the rental SUP, and I don’t notice it when I watch others. Or is this i11s specific? I did have the factory skeg on, but it is at the very back, I think for maneuverability. I am thinking a cure might be to add a skeg to the mirage drive plug? I have done this one of the plugs on my Oasis for when I paddle it, and it helped considerably. Unfortunately the plugs are not interchangeable. |

When using my i11s as a SUP, I install the Mirage drive as well as the rear fin (skeg? as you call it??). That helps the i11s be similar to my 3-finned "hard" SUP. I live on a small lake with very calm water so YMMV. Often I'll do one lap kayaking with the Mirage and another SUPping, which I find gives me an excellent lower and upper body workout. Hope this helps. |

Thx for the reply. I solved it another, but similar way. I purchased a small skeg on eBay, and used some small stainless screws to attach to the mirage drive plug. The skeg is smaller than the one that attached to the rear. Works perfect. I was going to try using the mirage drive, was was worried it might get in the way when standing. |

I'm glad you figured out a solution and it's sure better than what I suggested for SUPping! That would work a lot better for taking along my dog when I SUP. thanks |
