Hi everybody, I have a sail from a hard shell hobie kayak, I am no more and wonder if I can modify it into a second inflatable i9 s. Any advice? Thank!!! |

I have the opposite problem with an inflatable sail for an i12s which is no more and cannot be replaced. By the way, this is a catamaran section and your postings will get better attention at https://www.hobie.com/forums//viewforum.php?f=32 The difference is the inflatable sail mast is held up by 3 shrouds attached to the sail, which you can add as shown in https://media.hobie.com/item_attachment ... 204z52.pdf |

I've been told that Hobie is good about continuing to make Parts for older products. I'm getting a 2020 i9s, specifically since it has a Sail Port, and my Dealer has a Sail Kit for Inflatables for me, but I'm wondering if I'll run into trouble if I need to replace the Sail in the future. |

Sorry, I meant I have the I-sail, but cannot get an old style kayak with the mast step. Do you know any more sources for i12s or i9s? The i-sail seems indestructible and can last longer than the kayak seams in my experience. |

No worries. The only place I knew of that had an i9s in December 2020 is Lancaster County Marine. I spoke to Dale there. Good luck! |

Lancaster hasn't answered my emails for weeks. They may be keeping a 2020 i12s for local customers, at least until they can get replenished with itreks. When sailing upwind or sidewind, don't forget to keep your fins vertical by centering your pedals together. Or you can pedal, as long as you are resisting sideslip somehow. Also may want to lanyard everything that may fall out if you flip over, like mirage drive, paddle, etc. Not that flipping is likely, but an unlucky timing of gust and big wave could cause an expensive loss. |

I called Dale, and was able to speak with him, but I'm thinking the i9s may have been sold by now. Shipping was expensive, but they can ship. Thanks for the tips. I'm getting a leash for the Mirage Drive. Will the paddle sink if it falls in the water? |

I think the paddle floats low in the water, but the main thing is to not become separated from it. You might have just clicked one end in and the other is flopping loose. It's kind of retentive, but for all lanyards I use short cheap elastic leashes with loops on both ends, I think meant to retain fishing rods. It stays retracted out of the way, but is quite strong when stretched out. Thanks for the Lancaster update. Their web site was updated not too long ago to show i9s sold but i12s still available. Maybe I will wait til the fall to see if they have a 2020 facing another winter on the shelf. I still have my old mirage drive, so they wouldn't have to ship that. My local dealer says separate replacement mirage drives are in big demand, so Lancaster may already have a customer for it. |
