Post subject:  i14t Loose Steering

I have a 2018 i14t. I took it out for the first time this year a couple of weeks ago. The steering has gotten sloppy. There is about 2 inches of play in the steering control before the rudder reacts. It's obvious this needs an adjustment but my dealer is 4 hours away from me and Hobie won't return my calls.

To adjust it to take out the play in the steering, is it as simple as loosening the hardware on the rudder, pulling the control lines tight and then re-tightening the hardware? This seems too simple and wanted to reach out here to see if there are any tricks or other things I need to look for before attempting this.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!!!

My 2015 i12s needed frequent taking up of steering slack, simply by loosening the anchor screws and pulling almost tight. There may have been changes in the device in later models, but mine would steer much better with a trace of slack vs wandering about with slack.

Details: Have your boat fully inflated and observe the routing to the anchor screw. Is it set so tightening the screw will tighten the filament, and therefore you want to undercorrect? If some wrapping goes the other way so tightening the screw (bolt?) loosens the line, is there some apparent reason for that. Anyway I would set up with a trace of slack, then check it again after the first couple hours of use for more stretching. Then the tightness should last a few months.
