Ok, not crazy yet, but I am getting there. Here is the background:
- 2017 i11s with MD 180 drive.
- Replaced all 6 Nylock nuts on the MD 180 drive (they kept loosening up while I was on the water).
- Thoroughly washed and degreased (dish soap) the kayak and the MD 180 drive.
- Followed a maintenance video from Hobie to set the cables at the correct tension.
- Lubricated the MD 180 using the Hobie spray lubricant.
- Hand tested the MD 180 by moving the pedals back and forth - smooth as silk and quiet.
- I launched my kayak at 5 AM this morning to go bass fishing (the bite is ON in California).
- I nearly went crazy with the squeaking sound from the MD 180. I'm pretty sure it scared a lot of bass away - that is my story, and I am sticking with it.
- I took the drive out and hand-tested it again. It was smooth as silk and quiet.
- The only thing I can figure out is that the drive somehow rubs the sides of the drive well.
- I just returned from the lake and have not had time to investigate this further.
So my question is, has anyone else experienced this, and if so, are there known solutions?

Thanks,
Barry

Maybe closely inspect the drivewell sides with an intense light for wear marks. Mine showed well distortion where the drive was pushing forward and loosening up. Also I had a squeaking problem from shoes (heels?) rubbing the wet floor which can happen with drive the longest leg position.

Thank you for the response. I was able to put the kayak up on the stand this morning and all has been revealed. It turns out I was wrong. It is not the drivewell but rather the MD 180 itself. The spline assembly is making all the racket. Looks like I am in the market for a new spline.
