Post subject: | Accidentally Releasing Mirage Drive |
When I pedaled an Outback I never had a problem of accidentally releasing the mirage drive with the heel of my foot because my feet were always on the pedals. Now that I have an AI, my feet are constantly on and off the pedals and I find that I accidentally, and unknowingly, release the mirage drive with the heel of my foot. Or at lease that's what I suspect is happening. I haven't actually caught myself doing it, but I can't think of any other way it would release itself. Has anyone devised a lock for the quick release to prevent this. I would prefer to leave the drive in when sailing for tacking and slack winds. |

If it's not the drum shaft rotating or uncentred drums then check out Roadrunners clever solution within this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=41354 |

I think the original post has nothing to do with the shaft. On my TI I never tripped the Click and Go because the latches sit lower in the hull. When I first got the AI I had a lot of problems tripping the latches with my big feet. The worst part is when one side would release, I would not notice and keep pedaling, the latch would lock with the shaft out jamming the drive on a angle. I had a lot of problems releasing the drive. I modified the latch covers so they do not jam against the drive hex bolt head. That prevents the jamming problem. I have not come up with a good way to keep the big feet from tripping the latch. I changed my behavior and do not put my feet next to the drive. That has helped. One idea that I will try is to glue some foam pads around the latches to protect them from accidental tripping... |
