Post subject:  A comfortable seat for the 2014 TI

Hey All!
I want a better seat fo my 2014 TI!
It looks like Hobie has made sure the Vantage won't work on the pre 2015's and my research with the Coosa has given me mixed results. So Dunno :?
I'd sure like to upgrade from the stock seat.
Can anyone recommend something similar to these seats that doesn't require any, or very much modification?
Any input is much appreciated.Thanks
Don

Did a text search for "seat modification" in the island forums:

Believe me... we tried VERY hard to do this with backwards-compatibility. Just not possible and get the low position to be the same which is critical. The floor had to be lowered.

This seat fits/drops right in to the seat area, no modifications are necessary. Been using it sailing...Just right for the Islanders, very comfortable, not confining, good back support, folds up. $163-$200 in the West Marine stores or on-line.

Yes, wouldn't mind hearing and seeing someone's success with a seat replacement in the TI. Someone must have done so, lots of AI modified seats. Of course the TI being a bit wider.

By now you might have seen my seat solution in the TI shallow water thread

You can mount the 2015up vantage seat to a pre 2015. If you are using it in island mode stability is not an issue, and its nice sitting higher up, makes for easier hiking out and drier ride.. You just need a set of the new rail blaza rails, I used the 21in length(could probably get away with the 9in).
I like the exra length, as the rail give you a better sense of security and more area to mount things. Just mount the rails along the seat well, put some rubber on the deck where the rear of the seat will sit. Than all that is needed is to run a strap from rail to rail for the front of the seat to sit on. Using a cam buckle strap will allow for hieght adjustment in the front.
If I want to go in kayak mode i just remove the seat and strap and drop in the original.
When mounting the rails be sure to use a good backing plate. Only 4 holes required to mount the 2 rails.
Also make sure you leash the seat incase of capsize. Its an expensive seat to donate to davey jones's locker. :)

People who use the Attwood Centric seat seem to love it. Extremely easy to fit to a TI. Prices vary all over the place depending on color. West Marine seems to be as good as anyone. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/attwood--the-centric-seat--1210657

Here is Henry Ovares immediately after he boarded his boat during the 2016 WaterTribe Everglades Challenge. He had just recovered his boat after it drifted 150 yards off shore in Chokoloskee Bay (Mr Mako ferried him to his boat.) Henry loves his Attwood Centric seat.

That's a good option. The ability to run your mast through the the seat for traveling is a nice touch. Where did you find the seat backing..

I put my mast, paddle AND spinnaker through the hole in my Skipper seat, and help to secure them by folding the back down and using a bungee.
