Anyone having problems with sail furling only halfway? For some reason my sail will not furl all the way out. It stops and I need to pull the sail all the way out by reaching up and pulling. I changed the bearings and loosened the battens and still the same problem. I have a tandem 2012. Everything looks fine in the well and seating good. Does ok when furling in with no problem. Any help would be great...Im at a loss. |

Quote: For some reason my sail will not furl all the way out. It stops and I need to pull the sail all the way out by reaching up and pulling. That sounds like normal function. You need wind to fill and un-roll or have to pull the sail by sheeting / pulling on the foot. |

I find smearing some bearing grease on the mast base helps with furling the sail. |

From the front or back? How's the furling ring clearance? Too little, it rubs the bearing plate. Too much and the lines can get caught in there. Both hinder rotation. You need a little wind to help with the tension. Keeping a tight sail wrap helps too. Tie the sheet and furling line ends together and work both against each other when you use them. Gives you a nice tight wrap on the sail and drum. No slop. There may be too much twist in your sail, around the mast. Or a loose mast section. I find that unless I have good stiff wind, the last foot or 2 of these sails ALWAYS requires an extra tug. Even on the smaller AI sail. |
