I have been interested in adding a jib sail to my TI as I often find myself in very light wind conditions, less than 5-6 mph winds, the lake closest to me. I saw the new reacher sail, but couldn't get myself to pull the trigger on the cost and was concerned about losing the simplicity of sailing that the island offers and I value greatly. I stumbled onto the idea of the polytarp sail for the jib. Here are great instructions: http://www.polysail.com/library.htm The instructions are great and it's not complicated. I decided based on my research and desire for simple controls fro a fairly small jib. My jib is 10 ft luff and 4 ft foot. I chose to cannibalize the cam locks from the rear seat as I never sit there and bought these blocks: Racelite RL 221 Swivel Eye Dinghy Block (Package of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004701IO6/re ... RxbDKQDVKA I clipped on block to pad eye on bow and one at the webbing loop on the mast. Moved the furling line to port pre drilled holes and mounted the two repurposed cam locks to the pre drilled holes on starboard and I was ready to go. All in about $75. The nice thing about this approach is its a low cost way to find out if adding to the sail plan is for you. Kind of fun to play with sail size and configuration also. The tarp I bought will make 4 sails. Video of my test run. http://youtu.be/DeCaF9bbU24 http://youtu.be/0q-puDzH8AY Test was a super calm day but still fun |

Really nice job. I'm always impressed with those that can actually make their own sails. Very useful instructional video. |
