We are in the process of buying a outboard motor for our Hobie TI. We were thinking that a long shaft would be better for the kayak setup. Can anyone comment on this before we make the purchase? Thanks |

I went with short shaft per stringy's posts in the TI outboard mount thread https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=53785 The height of the mount is key.....8.5" above the gunnel has worked well for me. ![]() Happy motoring! Once tried, you'll never want to be on the water with out it! Doug |

We also have the short shaft Honda 2.3's (pair), we have been running them a long time now with no major issues. No matter which motor brand you get, I suggest running ethanal free recreational gas (available at many gas stations around here) if you can get the stuff. A lot of guys are also running the Suzuki, I can't speak on that one since I don't own one. FE |

I went for the long shaft... hope I can take the first testrun this weekend and I let you know how it works. The choice for the long shaft was mainly because I combine the motor with folding beachwheels. A short shaft motor would interfere more with my wheel setup. I am not convinced this was the right choice but as Donald Duck says... "I am a sucker for anything once!" ![]() All the best! /Gustav |
