Happy holidays to you all. While browsing the internet checking reviews about suzuki, i noticed this new long shaft model. 1. The bottom shaft has a cover. What is the purpose of this and can we add this to short shaft? https://onlineoutboards.com/suzuki-outb ... -4780.html 2. Where do you buy suzuki parts, oil, oil filter etc...? |

about a year ago I found a gas cap and water impeller for the Suzuki 2.5 at http://www.boats.net/ A friend converted a Honda about 8 hp to an xlong shaft - somewhat similar. He not only had to get the extension sleeve but also replace the drive shaft and the shift linkage. You may not have to change the shift linkage on the 2.5.. dont know for sure. I have the short shaft and have never felt at all like I needed the longer shaft either solo or with two people. I sit solo in rear and the outboard is mounted just behind. Curious why you would want the longer shaft? Most small sailboats do work better with a long shaft but I dont think the TI needs it. |

sorry for the confusion. i already bought a short shaft suzuki and just trying to understand the purpose of that sleeve. Can that be added to my short shaft for better results? I guess i need to first understand the purpose. |

It looks to me like that sleeve is a cover for the extra section Suzuki added to make it a long shaft? I see no benefit in adding it. The short shaft is fine just as is. |

That flange coming off the extra length for the long shaft is just to hold the anti cavitation plate and serve as an emergency rudder (can steer even if motor not running). Find an authorized suzuki dealer near you for parts. You can buy oil anywhere; look in your owners manual for the correct grade; I think I use 10W40 because that's what I have on hand. DO change it after the first few uses when new (break in), then annually. Don't overfill the oil-wet sump design. Too much oil and you'll clog the main jet in the carb. |
