Quick look at some $13 lights to add to any Kayak for better visibility (hopefully) ....
On the water testing will come this weekend.

I have used these lights over the last few years on my TI.

A few thoughts....

- These lights are NOT waterproof.
- OK if you keep the lights dry and in fresh water kayaking
- Offshore sailing (in salt water) ..... well....first splash and the lights are dead...

What I have done is either shrink wrap or place the lights in water tight plastic bags.

I mount the red and green lights on my camera mounts (Railblaza AKA Railmounts) which are mounted on the Akas just above the Almas (a mostly dry location on the TI...). The white lights are mounted on my rear camera mount. All three lights are elevated a couple feet for better visibility and a bit dryer location.

I typically sail with duplicate sets, red, green and white lights - all wrapped in plastic. The extra protection and redundancy works well for the rough offshore sailing. Very helpful when returning to port after sunset!

good stuff..... thanks for info.
I put the red one on the end of my kayak when it was hanging out my truck bed.
I left it outside over night and noticed alot of condensation for sure.... it was dry by afternoon but, still noticed it for sure.

So after the first voyage with these... on the way home I did put the red LED on the back of my Yak and it served its purpose as an over hang light perfectly.
I did leave it on the Yak over night when I got home (not turned on, just clipped to the Yak) and had ALOT of condensation in it in the morning.
Still works and is all dried out now for what it is worth.

It is good stuff. I have been using such lights for years. I like kayaking, and we have special routes for it with my friends. Sometimes we kayak too slow, and we need to kayak a little bit at night to arrive at the stop point for the night. I bought such LED lights from vont.com, which are very useful. Most of all because it helps us see each other so in case we love one person we could easily find him just by searching for the lights on the Kayak. It saves a lot of time and also increases safety at night.
