Post subject: | Carrying a Mirage Sport on a swim platform |
I've been looking at using my Weaver Davit bases for a base to lift and store my Mirage Sport on the swim platform of my 30' boat while at a marina and underway, like a dinghy. No one makes a davit base to securely lift and carry a kayak, and Weaver will not make a custom adapter. The platform is 24" front to back, and I would like to have half the 30" width on/over the platform and half extended behind the platform. One davit supplier offers adapters, if you you purchase one of their over $1k davit systems designed for an inflatable dinghy and outboard. Two systems being looked at are the "DinghyRamp" and the "Top Mount" by DinghyDavits. Both would need a base for the contour of the Mirage Sport. The Kayak Cradle / Plug - in Cart #80047001 (6 1/4 x 25 3/4) attached to the top of their "rails" might do the job. I have a cradle and have placed it on the the bottom of the kayak resting area's to see how the contours match. The back fits very well, and the front has a reasonably good fit. I would also cover the Cradle with pieces of SeaDek for a cushion. Any other ideas? |
