I'm considering which dolly to get for a TI. Options:

A) 80046100 HOBIE DOLLY, AI/TI TUFF-TIRE $498. I'm not sure that this will fit in the back of my tow vehicle even with the handle removed.

B) 80046001 HOBIE HEAVY DUTY PLUG-IN CART $218.00 Is this rated for the TI?

C) 80047001 HOBIE CART - FOLD AND STOW $230.00 My favorite option, but is it rated for the TI.

I like C the best if it will handle the TI since I can put it in the hull if need be.

Does anyone have the dimensions of (A) and (B)? Are there any issues with hull cracks when using a plug in cart vs the cradle style?

It is a complex decision. I ended up with a DIY option, using the HD insert-style trolley to make two trips from trailer, across firm and loose surfaces with a 2012 TI. One trip with the hull, the other with AMA’s, HAKA’s, etc. I used the HD plug in cart to make each trip.
I’ve tried the C-Tug - not bad on hard surfaces, but no good on loose (sand).
I prefer a trolley with a slide on, or lift on (rather than roll the hull and insert) capability on land, as the small surf, loose sand and water temperature makes it a bit a challenge to insert a trolley into the hull.
An option that has recently caught my eye is the Wilderness Systems HD Cart, which is very similar to an improved cart I’m working on…
If you’re looking for a cart that works on hard surfaces, you’re on the right track.
Wheel type & diameter, and the type of surface the cart is to be used on is worth further consideration…

Thanks Steve. I'm not really fond of the plug in method as I agree that rolling the boat is not idea. Plus the danger of damaging the scupper holes. I'll probably go with (A) unless I could possibly figure out how to install the cradle on a board and then mount that to the Wilderness Systems HD Dolly.

Plug-ins place a lot f load at the scuppers, but you can add the cradle to help that. You have to roll the hull on its side to insert the cart.

The dolly is better for many reasons. You can slide in under the boat on land or in the water. It is easier to pull as the tires are larger... especially if you are on soft sand. You would need the beach tires. The wheels come off the dolly frame easily for storage. The handle also comes off easily. The cradle axle is about 50"when shipped. Wider with the sand tires.

Anybody rig up a way to secure the dolly to the trailer?

Steve, not sure if you're kidding about it looking great. I don't think it looks that bad, especially with tough tires instead of beach tires. But one thing: it's totally illegal since it completely blocks the rear view of the trailer's taillights. It does give me the thought that I may be able to put the dolly across the main beams of the trailer, forward of the lights. Then put it back there while the boat is out on the water. Will have to see once I get the boat.

Steve Brown, I love that design. Do you happen to have access to the design plans for that. I’d like to customize my trailer to fit that.

Hi HobieTI, no plans, just something I’ve noticed… here’s some other good ideas that could be adapted.
