I thought I'd pop in to share a few vids of my dune adventure island being used for sailing in full trimaran config, fishing in various configs, as well as using it with a single outrigger and going Polynesian style (my favourite method of fishing rough waters).

This one is one of my better sailing vids:

This one shows off the island being used as a single outrigger style yak:

And this one is a montage style clip showing off my yak fishing highlights of 2008 (taken from Jervis Bay Australia), including good footage of seals and whales.

And this last one contains footage of myself catching some 10+kg longtail tuna from the kayak (hull-only mode).

Great footage. I've been thinking about taking the AI down to Jervis Bay for a couple of days. Now I'm really keen. Any recommendations about camping spots, places to sail etc?

I had already spotted them and really like them : pretty neat, and yes the Jervis Bay seems to be a magnificent place to sail yak.

G'day Chris. I think it's called Cave Rocks (or cave beach), not too far away from where I launch at JB that has an excellent camping spot. Launching from Murrays Beach (near the heads) is ideal for fishing/sailing around Pt Perp and Bowen Isl. if you launched from there, went out through the heads and then head south, I think its about 10km to cave beach. Look into booking a site there and then sailing there from murrays beach - I always planned to do this, but left the area before I found time. One-day sailing trips are great to - again, launch from Murrays beach, sail to pt Perp, have a look around and then sail back.

November is the best time for whale watching. Absolutely, positively, make sure you head out sailing in JB during that time.

If you're into fishing, have a look at the JB trip reports section at my website. If you go through those you'll get some good ideas on where to fish and what to expect to catch. You'll find that here: http://yakabout.com.au/home/content/category/14/122/54/

I have a bunch of other videos to (mostly fishing, but some sailing) in the vids section of my site as well, here: http://yakabout.com.au/home/content/blogsection/10/39/

Oh, thanks Arno... I didn't know they'd been posted. I should come here much more often than I do. Think I'll make that a new rule: visit the Hobie Cat forums once a day :-)

Cheers

Thanks (??)Josh, that's just the info I was looking for. I'll try and get down during the winter. I can only get a couple of days in a row on the weekend, so I'd rather go down when things are quiet. We're quite well served for whales on the Central Coast in November, but I have never seen a seal up this way.

For sure you would have A LOT to teach us (when I see you trailing in heavy sea, under sail, and close to a rocky shore, I am dead sure of that).
Actually I had spotted them in youtube straight away, and believe me, I must account for half of the views myself

Cave Beach looks a little challenging to land at  :

Hmmm, I might go with the Murray's Beach option.

Good to see stable video again. Nice work 5th! 8)
That is a beautiful part of our coast. I spent a lot of time in Jervis Bay many years ago.
We've been down that way in our Oasis but I'm keen to get the AI's there at some stage.
Are you still thinking of island hopping to Tassie?

Chris, you'll see that seal colony on your way to cave beach coming from the nth. And yes, the beach does look hairy in that shot, but on the far right there is just that little bit of protection. You'll have to drag your yak further to get to the path that leads to camp, but it may be worth it. The day I visited it looked fine for an island landing. (And yes... it's Josh).

Stringy, yes I am still planning on doing that, although this year was canned due to my shoulder being in a bad state. So for now I'm saying 2010 but there's a very real possibility my shoulder won't be healed by then, so I may have to postpone further.

And yep, JB is a great place for the islands. Absolutely picture perfect.
