A friend of mine and I are going to meet in eastern MD for a few days of paddling, sailing, and biking. We're looking at either Elk Neck State Park or Assateague (if the latter, I'd definitely sail on the Sound side, not ocean side). Recommendations/suggestions as to which would be better for sailing? Thanks! |

Hi Puzman, Sorry I didn't see your post before now. But a good place to get good info for sailing AI's on the Chesapeake is http://www.meetup.com/Hobie-Adventure-Island-Group/ It's a group of 41 AI sailors (at last count) that sail around the Chesapeake. It's a great bunch and lots of good ideas for places to sail. If your in the area check it out. Glenn |

I am waiting for the arrival of my AI Tandem in late April. I am going to use it based out of Chincoteague, VA and sail Chincoteague Bay. Once I get the feel of the boat (haven't sailed in over 20 yrs) I am planning an extended sail / crusie to OC and camp along the way if possible. I used to have a AquaCat when I was in my early 20's (a long time ago) and it was a blast to sail the bay, shallow water, good winds, excellent speed, a real rush! Another good area is Tom's Cove off of Assateague Island in VA, can launch your AI from the parking lot at the beach, this is also a great sailing area. |
