Will you use a Trailer, if so was it expensive?

I could car top it with my existing setup but, I thought it was be easier to go with a trailer. So I went with the trailer the dealer had. I got the heavy duty leaf springs, spare tire, storage trunk, extra wide bars (to hold 2 TIs) and removable tongue. Pretty much the works. And for hundred bucks they assemble it. Sounds good to me! I am sure I could have found a used trailer and fixed it up but did not feel like spending more time doing that.

We just came back from paying for ours also, our dealer Andy LeVine at The Tackle Shack Pinellas Park, FL 33781. Ours shipped Friday. Andy had just got the TI back that was in the everglades challenge, the one that Pelican rescued the 2 sailors in. We took it out to day. What a great time!!! It’s a little worse the ware for the beating it took in the challenge but very solid. I asked Andy if he had ours shipped next day but only got a laugh. Its going to be a long week waiting.

We will be using a trailer with ours. Have all ready removed the tool box and mast stand in the front.

skymax - I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of my TI and trailer, too. According to my cost breakdown, the TI's aluminum trailer with TI cradles came to $1,035 US (not including tax). I didn't get anything special (no spare tire, etc) - the trailer and cradles were all I needed.

I'm hoping it gets here soon, before the oil spill puts black racing stripes along the hulls the first time I put her in the water. (Please pray for our marshes and beaches along the gulf coast.)

The trailer I got is a Malone trailer with the stuff I mentioned above. It was about 1800 with all the extra thingies and assembly. A little pricey perhaps but, I will get over that. When the TI does get here, I will pull up, hook up and go (hopefully straight to the lake!). That will be nice. Don't worry plenty of pics will follow.

Mark - will you be using Hobie cradles on your Malone trailer? ... or another manufacturer's saddles, j-style carriers, or something else? And hey - Getting the extra wide load bars? I think it's neat you're already planning for your second Tandem Island. (I can never plan ahead...)

I went with the Hobie cradles.
My bro-in-law is "Suppose" to get one soon!!!
He will have to buy the second cradle set.
Plus we can haul the TI and our tandem Outfitter if we need to.

Mark;

Hope you get your Tandem soon!!!! Denise and I took ours out for the first time last night in a little circle lake here in Lakeland, 5 to 10 knots winds. On this lake they tend to swirl because its tree lined and in a bowl. We saw 9mph on the gps. Great ride. Everything was great. Love the roomer seat areas, Love the new seats. We will be out somewhere after work today. The tramps are still on order.

$100 for assembly? I wish I had that option.
I just ordered a new trailer (just the small single AI trailer, not even the TI version) and my dealer wanted $400 to assemble it!
So, needless to say, I didn't take them up on it. It is sitting in it's two boxes in my garage until I have time to assemble it.

I thought it was a good deal!
They said it was not fun assembling those trailers - I agreed.
400 seems pricey.

Post subject:  Larryhyts (trailer question)

My trailer is about the size of your trailer. I just got my TI and it sits on cradles on the trailer cross-bars. I want to put my AI above the TI as you have mounted your kayaks.
What size tubing did you use? Steel or aluminum?
How did you attach the tubing to the trailer stringers (bolted or welded)?
I thought about just bolting the upper framework to the trailer but was worried about
torquing or bending from the weight of the load above.
