Post subject: | 1st time sail in Adventure Island |
I just purchased an Adventure Island I have never sailed one and have only read about them. I am taking it out Suday in 13 mile an hour winds. Does anyone have any basic 101 for me I assume start with it heavily furled then let more out the better I get any tips would be appreciated. Thanks Butch |

1. Butch - read the manual from front to back. 2. Practice using the lines and other equipment before you get on the water 3. Train yourself to keep an close eye on conditions all around you. 4. Don't forget to pull the drive/daggerboard out before landing! That should do it for day one,.. ![]() |

You can download it - but I warn you, it's still the same prehistoric, fuzzy, b&w, old mast, old Aka, old rudder, tired-old 2006 AI version that has been around since day one. ![]() http://2010.archive.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/Adventure_Island_Manual.pdf Tech info: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5958 Hopefully you have already consumed several years worth of advice from our helpful forums. Some great threads here. Oh - almost forgot: #5. Please look out for overhead powerlines!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Butch, Its a fun ride, be careful of the fore mentioned power lines and bridges with your mast up. You need 18 feet of clearance if in doubt lower your mast and bungee it to an aka. Trust me eye balling it from the water doesn't work. It is embarrassing when your off by 2 inches. Not the time to discover, the mirage drive doesn't have a reverse. |

Unless you put the Mirage drive in backwards, which seems to happen 50% of the time to me. ![]() |

If you leashed the drive to the hull (leashed from the front of the drive), you'd know if it was going in backward! ![]() |
