Post subject: | Help! Repair or replace hull options needed |
[img]Hi, This is my first post. I'm feeling a little lost and seeking help/advice. I own two Adventure Islands, a 2007 and a 2013. The 2007 model has developed cracks at both mounting points of the cross bar near the mast. It had a crack on the port side about 3 years ago which was repaired at a Hobie dealer in Morro Bay. And now that area has cracked again and there is a new one on the starboard side. I do not feel comfortable attempting to repair these myself as I do not own a heat gun and because I want to be sure the repair is done well by someone experienced enough to know if this repair is advisable at all. I.e. It seems it would be better to replace the hull given the location of the cracks. Trying to deal with this I run into two problems. 1) I am advised that I should see my local Hobie dealer but those closest to me say they are not equipped to deal with hull repairs. I live in Visalia California (near Fresno). How can I find a dealer that can address the issue and advise if a repair is recommended over a replacement. 2) Trying to search my options for a replacement hull I have not found anything that says I can do this (buy a hull). Given it is a 2007 model, is there even an option to buy one that will match the hardware and is there a range of model years that would be suitable for replacement? If repair or replace is not possible is their a market for the boat as spare parts? Here is a link to photos of the two cracks: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Tb491SdzTfoZCqbV7 Thanks in advance for any kindnesses and / or useable advice. Cheers! Bryan PS I don't sail enough! |

To replace the hull: 2015 or newer is a totally different hull, so you need a hull older than 2015 To repare: take your hull and go to a garage where they repare plastic bumpers from cars, maybe they can help ( your car dealer will know an adress) The other questions i can’t answer, europe is a different market Sorry for the typos, english is not my first language( not my second either) Have fun on the water Peter |

Thank you Peter! That is great advice and encouraging too. BTW, your English was perfect! Even sharing that it is not your 1st or 2nd language! I also found a video showing a tool from Harbor Freight stores that uses a plug-in hot iron with a flat triangular tip to groove the crack and work the new plastic in. I can imagine myself doing this and may try it if I can find one at my local Harbor Freight store. Thank you again. Bryan |

Repair it yourself is possible, but remember those cracks are on stress points, you have to reinforce them with wiremesh (as i see it according to the pictures) Peter |
