Kayaking Bob .... Do you by any chance have the dimensions of your splash shield. I could not find them in the forum. Also, what fabric did you end up using. Thanks

Here's the style: (easiest to make and use) 
Here's the pattern: (right-click, then Save Image as, to download and then print) all measurements in inches 
Here's the material: (shade cloth, from Walmart, Ace Hardware, Lowes) 
The last full post about them here: http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewt ... sprayskirt If you sail in chop, you'll never go without once you try it. No more "bucket fulls" in the face and chest. They can be painted with Krylon paints to make it fancy. I'm waiting to see what Aloha Dan's looks like! Kayaking Bob P.S. My wife has a black one done, and two grays cutout, ready to sew from the batch she made in Dec. if anyone else is not up to the sewing

Water rarely rolls straight down the hull from the bow to the cockpit since the wind is almost always at angles to the hull. Any water that runs onto the sprayskirt drains through very quickly. Water can go straight through the shade cloth material quickly but can't go through at angles well at all, so it stops the waves, splash and spray. A little mist can get through when it gets really wild, but then, that is the least of our problems

Bob I got your spray shield installed and have been using it last few days. Weather of cool, water is in mid 50's winds gusting to 20+. It really cut down the spray, is a nice feature to have on, especially in cool weather. I did get some slack in the bow lines and had to tighted them. That black does look nice on the yellow boat. Nicely done! Yep, the line usually does stretch after the first sail or two, and needs to be tightened. I usually just add extra knots at the bow to take up any slack in the lines. When "deployed", the material should look taut. Nice pictures. Keep warm. Kayaking Bob

MRL.... yes I do sail out with the with the side deck netting attached. I have been using it for more than a year now, it has worked out well. RECONLON... where did you get your black netting? Is it vinyl like mine? |

Would you believe Lowes
It's shade cloth, like the samples shown early in the thread. It might not be as heavy duty as yours (?), but it is perfect for the spray skirt. Kayaking Bob |

My version using shield purchased from Bob. I don't sail as much as Bob. Due light winds, use with no sail, and to fishing I wanted quick disconects. 
Here's were I pinch the middle section. I used a plastic pull tie to secure one end of line. 
At the other end I used a tie to secure a woman's hair band. (will probably replace with heavier duty spongee loop). Then it becomes a simple matter of spreading it to pull the knotted line through. 
For the ends I used Bob's ball trick on the port side. The stbd was so hard I couldn't get to with a screw in nut. So I just used the existing fitting. 
The trampoline fish carrier and pulley system for big ahi (100+ lbs) I'll post later. I have it rigged so it doesn't interfere with the shield. I'll do testing this week. If you a non sewer like me, let Bob'swife do the work. It's well made, and she includes a pre threaded string so you can pull your lines through. Thanks Bob. Give your wife a hug fo me. Aloha Dan |

Hi Bob, I just received and fitted my sprayshield -thanks. It was pretty straightforward, but set me to wondering - why attach to the hull (near the cheekblock)? It seems to sit quite well without that attachment. Does a lot of water splash up between the hull and the shield if it is not attached there? Chris |
