Post subject:  Mirage drive / Turbo ST fins question

I have had a look round the forum but can't find an answer to this. I want to upgrade from the standard fins to the Turbo ST fins but do not know which version of the Mirage drive I have. The serial number on it is 70982. Could someone please give me an idiots guide to working out what I have and any recommendations on anything else that should be upgraded on the Mirage drive or modifcations to re enforce the hull or turnlocks whilst I am ordering the parts. Thanks for any advice.

you can tell if you have V1 or V2 mirage drive by looking at the drive parts diagram in the parts catalog either paper or pdf. it shows sideways picture views of the drives and you match up the one that looks like yours. You probably have V2.

Key to the V2 or older ST Turbo kits is how the masts seat into the sprockets. You look at the sprocket close to the base of the mast. V2 sprockets have brass embeded in the plastic that the masts thread into. The older sprockets used set screws to hold the masts in. Also... if you remove a fin, the V2 masts have a slot in the end of the mast for a blade screw driver. These newer sprockets / masts started hitting the market last summer.

Thanks for the advice. Is it worth upgrading to the newer parts whilst I have it apart.? I don't have the drive here to look at currently, but I imagine I have the V1 judging by the age of the rest of the boat.

Would require just two new (V2) sprockets in addition to the V2 Turbo kit. I think it is well worth it.
