I like to ride on the windward tramp. Or when there's two of us, we take turns in the cockpit and on the windward tramp as we tack -- with each change of direction one gives up the cockpit and the other enters it. As regards the forthcoming tandem, I'm having a hard time imagining how two people inline in the cockpit is going to be as enjoyable socially as when we are side by side. Maybe if its someone you don't like talking with. For the same reason I have no interest in tandem kayaks -- much prefer to be out in two boats. Anyway, I really like the tramps, and primarily for social reasons. I don't find it effortful to role them up. |

HI I'm only a new AI owner but I find the tramps useful for extra space. I don't put them on if I'm just going out for a quick sail in solid winds but if I'm out for a while or fishing the extra space comes in handy. They are also a different place to sit/ stand. For lake fishing I have a little beach chair I set up on a tramp. Occasionally I'll use a single tramp only for extra space. I just find they make an already versatile little boat even more versatile. |

Well now that I've got my hammock/tent sorted, I've finally ordered a pair of those aftermarket tramps on ebay, to make the complete camping platform.  Another (probably psychological) benefit is that you feel a bit more isolated from sharks. |

I recently installed the tramps for my dog. He loves riding on them (well, technically, not 'them' yet as I have only tried with one side deployed. Haven't yet figured out a good way to board the boat with both installed nor how to manuver in shallow water when beaching/launching). I think the tramps are as/more comfortable than his own dog bed at home! I haven't used them on a super windy day yet. On a windy day I would either deploy both sides so he could move from side-to-side as I tack or I will simply leave him home on real windy days. |

I must get out on mine a bit more now the weather is warming up and hopefully pressure of business is not not so much standing in the way of sun, fun & exercise.....Pirate

I like the tramps for helping keep lines from cluttering or tangling in the cockpit, helping to keep spray down, and actually make it easier to launch and board the boat. I launch the boat straight out, but I am walking backwards, with the back of my knees pushing against the akas. I sit down on the tramp while kicking off, and then just roll/spin around into the cockpit. |

I did find the tramps made launching a little more complicated. I'm also mindful of people watching the "funny little sailboat thing" and try not to make a scene by falling over with too many spectators...

After repairing or replacing Turbofins and/or their masts a few times, I now ALWAYS remove the drive far before any surf zone and paddle in. I have a 1/2 tramp on one side when fishing, which still allows me to paddle in over it. If I used a full tramp on one side, I'd paddle in on only one side using my single paddle instead of Hobie's double paddle. Hey, I need to use the paddles I carry sometime!

They are the subject of an active thread here: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=14177 I got them mainly to use when in camping mode, but they should also be compatible with my existing "Conlon" sprayshields. For someone starting from scratch, I still think you are on the money with a half-width tramp with integrated sprayshield. |
