Post subject:  Suggestions needed for various items

Hello,

I need some suggestions for the following.

Good sun screen
I've been using the Bullfrog Quick Gel 36SPF for many years. But, it's not strong enough for the extended hours that I've been spending in the AI.

Sunglasses
A windsurfer suggested sunglasses with glass lenses coated with Rainx. That sounds like a good idea to deal with the spray. I tried the Rainx on my plastic lense sunglasses and it didn't work too well. I'm looking for polarized, glass lense sunglasses.

Hat
I've been using a Tilley hat and it's great but doesn't offer the protection of Yakass' hat (seen in video).

Does anyone know what brand his hat is?

Waterproof binoculars
Looking for something small, inexpensive, decent quality.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, for the hat, I think this might be what you're after: http://www.sunprotection.com.au/

Actually I think his hat is one of these-

I've got the fluro yellow "please don't run me over" ones. Ordered online thorugh their website.

At one stage they were known as "urban turbans".

I have a pair of these Oakley's and use them on the AI, I'm happy with them. They include a lense fluid that causes water to run-off the lense and they also have a lanyard that fits around you neck. I use them in salt water too.

Thanks for the ideas. The Aussie's have some neat products and I know are great watermen.

I was at West Marine and couldn't pass up their Oahu model binoculars on sale for $60 ($50 online). They seem pretty good for the price...waterproof and lifetime warranty.

The larger ones (Maui) seemed to have better image quality but they were more expensive and bigger. Hope I picked the right ones.

Take care,
Dave

Bob, regarding the Oakley's...does the water spray really run off so you have a fairly clear view?
Thanks,
Dave

Try wiping some 'Plexus' plastic cleaner on your glasses Big Dave. It repels the water off glasses, visors etc beautifully. It is an American product sold here is Australia so you should not have trouble getting your hands on it. Another product that works well is Mr. Sheen furniture wax and polish. It is real cheap and can be got in the supermarkets...Pirate
