Just got back from Minneapolis boat show... Ordered a Papaya TI. Boat will hopefully arrive in about three months. The 'knuckle' connectors from the cross-bars to the akas are an excellent improvement. The knucle connectors are connected to the cross-bars by a sleeve which slides into the bolted-down cross-bar. There is a 'push botton' fitting for the sleeve...push in the two opposing buttons and the sleeve, knucle, and the aka all smoothly pull away from the cross-bar! One of the reasons I put my AI on a trailer, was my inability to quickly pull the pin out of the aka joint or pop the pin back into the joint. Sometimes I had to use a small hammer to tap the pin back in. The larger tiller handle also fits my hand better. The rear deck is noticeably smaller than the AI's...the 'milk-crate' I use to carry small items above deck will barely fit back there. The rear hatch is tilted down forward enough you will never have water standing around the rim as in the AI. It appears that the TI's 13+ft amas have the same sockets and front-aft distance as the AI. I am going to try the TI's amas on my AI for fun and see how much extra bouyancy they provide. If you already own an AI with tramps, they should fit just fine on the TI. The rudder is slightly larger than the TI with a much longer rudder pin, appears it is made of the same grey material as the AI: a 'D' pin with a split bottom. The pin fitting is much longer and very robust looking. |

Congrats! I knew about some of the differences and upgrades vs my Outfitter but not all since I do not own an AI. Gonna be a long 3 months waiting, cant wait for mine to show up. |

Congrats and thanks for the rundown of the features Tidalwave. Do you, or anyone, have a photo of the new knuckle connection ? I still can't get my head around how it looks. Also, what is the sail area increase on the TI over the AI ? Surely, if you can order them, the secret is out. Hobie, release the photos ??? |

Russell Mulcahy ? Is he the bloke who's career began with making early music videos while he was working for the Seven Network in Sydney and in early 1974, former radio DJ Graham Webb launched a weekly teen-oriented TV music show which screened on Sydney's ATN-7 on Saturday mornings; this was subsequently renamed Sounds Unlimited in 1975 and later shortened simply to Sounds and in need of material for the show and then Webb approached Mulcahy (who was then employed in the Seven newsroom) and asked him to shoot film footage to accompany popular songs for which there were no purpose-made clips (e.g. Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talkin'") and using this method, Webb and Mulcahy assembled a collection of about 25 clips for the show and the success of his early efforts encouraged Mulcahy to quit his TV job and become a freelance director, and during this period he made clips for several popular Australian acts including Stylus, Marcia Hines, Hush and AC/DC and then after relocating to the UK ca. 1976, Mulcahy made successful music videos for several noted British pop acts -- his early UK credits included XTC's "Making Plans For Nigel" (1979), The Vapors' hit "Turning Japanese" and his landmark video for The Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star" (1979) which became the first music video played on MTV in 1981[2] and then by the mid-1980s Mulcahy was one of the most sought-after video makers in the world, directing videos for some of the most successful pop-rock acts of the period including The Human League, The Tubes, Elton John, Ultravox, most of the major hits of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, The Motels, Supertramp and The Rolling Stones. Naahhh Chris, Slaughter is right on the money with RM the videoclip director.  But why? It's a bit obscure but if you can remember his clips they often contained scenes similar to Slaughters pic!
