Maybe, if you know others with AIs, someone would trade with you, as there are fans of both the new and the older style daggerboard. I'd trade one, but the shipping could be a killer

The dagger board does not snug up in its well on this hull as it did in my first two hulls. I would also add that the replacement dagger board is white, purchased from the local Hobie Dealer, opposed to the gray original board. I lost the original due to the lack of securing it properly. You pay the money, you secure the next one. How tight should the board be? I know that it designed to kick out when it strikes something or is grounded. The foam plug fits about the same on all three hulls. Thanks Mac |

I don't think a loose fit is a problem. You are putting it's bungee through the plastic eye loop to the rear of the daggerboard slot and over the eyelet post, right! That should hold it vertical unless something is hit. I also add a small SS carabiner on to the bungee after it's through the loop so it cannot leave. |

It is just not tight in the slot. It has a tendency to be sloppy and wobble unless I fill the slot with some of the bungee. I did not notice this on the first two hulls or the gray board. I would think that it should be snug in the normal position. |

KB, I take it the new board is white--correct? I'm asking because I ordered a new board on the internet. The board I got is grey, just like my original. I understand the new (white?) boards are stronger. Keith |

I also had to replace my factory-original dagger board...the new one was of the new shape and material. But it too was black. The new board supposedly is much tougher and I found that it is slightly better in helping to point up wind. You might want to check the 'shape' of the white board. There are photos of the 'new' style board in this forum and also in the new parts online catalog. Is there a 'third' Hobie board (white rather than black)? Because the fit is not as good as the original board, I wonder if there now is an 'after-market' for 'Hobie' parts. |

I have white, grey (both fibreglass) and black (nylon) daggerboards. What is the white daggerboard made from, fibreglass or nylon (same as rudder)? Discussion on the new DB found here: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=16389 The new nylon Black DB is a loose fit but when bungeed correctly works well. I don't rake my DB so I haven't had a problem. It wouldn't be too difficult to glue some thin foam to the DB if you want a tighter fit to allow raking. Not sure why the white DB is a looser fit if it's fibreglass?

First let me apologize for the new thread. I did a search and dagger board did not appear. I may be alright though because my question has to do with fit in the well. The picture of the white board on the other thread is the one that I have. It is clearly fiberglass. I use it in the straight down (not raked) position. I'll work on shimming to see if I can get a little tighter fit (but not too tight). It is doubtful mine is after market. |
