Hi all from a forum noob. I've owned and enjoyed an Oasis for a couple of years but really want to get an AI as my next boat. My problem is that I have plenty of free time (maybe not such a problem) and living on the beach I'd like to be able to get out there at a moments notice on those perfect days without a partner. So.....can a Tandem AI be sailed single handed if I'm stuck without a sailing buddy? I'm 95kg. I've searched the forum for related threads and found some talking about sailing the Oasis with ballast in the forward cockpit. Is it as simple as that for the bigger sail area boat? |

It's me again. I've stumbled across quite a few posts talking about single handed sailing of a Tandem Island as well as visiting my local Hobie Dealer and seeing the TI for myself as well as getting his advice. So....thanks anyway, I've got my info, which is a resounding yes and can't wait to get a TI. |

I am upgrading from the Tandem Outfitter who is upgrading to a TI. I plan on sailing solo some of the time in fact I look forward to it. |

Thanks guys for the info. Once I'd actually seen the TI in the flesh at my local dealer I was able to get a bit of a handle on the solo sailing capability. My decision now is whether to keep the Oasis once I get a TI (about a 2 month wait is the best guess). One small question. I live on an open surf beach (Sunshine Coast near Coolum for Aussies). Is the TI capable of getting out through a beach break ? |

I have an AI and I've done beach breaks before. I think the tandem would do it, you just have to watch the waves/sets and only attempt launches you are comfortable with. I don't like anything more than 2ft. Usually when I launch I paddle like mad, then once over the breaking waves I switch to peddle/rudder. I just feel like the paddle gives you a little bit more control in the mad dash to get over the waves. I've only done it 3 or 4 times though. We mostly launch from beaches that are sheltered from any significant wave action. |

Thanks for your these comments we are looking at getting a TI or AI just waiting of it to be released over here to see it in the flesh before making a decide which one to get |
