Post subject: | Solo sailing and reefing the TI |
When solo sailing the TI, I prefer the rear seat. Less spray back there and the hull seems to be more balanced. I found that in a good stiff breeze, the main sheet pull would eventually become uncomfortable with the dual sheet setup. Because I regularly I solo sail from the aft seat, I did not need the dual sheet controls anyway so I re-led the lines as recommended by Hobie to the triple-line single rear control. I have yet to have trouble reefing...I sailed a mono-hull for quite a few years...and usually had to fall off to lessen the tension. So I tend to fall off slightly or release sheet tension when I reef, which makes it fairly easy to furl the main. The furling cleat seems to work okay from the rear seat tho' I have to lean somewhat forward to make certain that the cleat engages completely. I agree that a second furling cleat installed near the rear cross-brace would probably work better than the forward one. I plan to install a rear cleat next week along with a tiller knob. |
