Hi Aussie TI "owners". Thought it might be fun to have a thread for the first of us to take delivery of our TIs.

This is a boast thread I'm afraid - grabbed my red one off Sailing Scene here in Sydney just last Friday... for a weekend of dead-still conditions and light rain. Still, boat is a massive hit with 2x 2.5 year old boys.

I think I got one of the first ones off the rack because I splurged on the trailer, tramps and cart. And maybe because my invoice is dated Feb 4. Yes, the boat is a hell of a big kayak, but compared to a trailer sailer four times the price, it's a breeze. Launching off the trailer takes all of about five minutes. Even just under pedal power - and often only one set (with the most lacklustre assistance from wind you ever saw) - still covered a bunch of kilometres. Can't wait until a sunny breezy day!

Oh yeah: and I am using demo tramps and cart while I wait for mine to ship... hilarious!

G'Day and welcome Alfayak! :)
Great to see some more TI's are making it downunder.
We picked ours up on 2/6 and like you, I can't wait for some decent sailing days. It's not the best time of the year for using it. So far we've had no wind or 30 knots when we've planned to take it out. :(
I can tell you it's great as a kayak and faster than an AI when there is no wind! We left our AI companions far behind on a long windless pedal back last trip out.
Has yours had the aka lock button mod done? It should have.

Need to check that out... it has "factory adjusted" written on it if so, yeah?

Congratulations on getting you TI. And as every good aussie that boast deserves 'up yours'
I am still waiting for mine. I am looking at September; what I cant stand in Melbourne is the cold winter, while I look at pics of the TI in Hawaii.

Hope the weather is great for you to give feed back on how much fun you are having. I will read with excitement/ envy .

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!

My TI arrives on Thursday, and my trailer isn't ready. I feel like a cat on a hot tin roof! Better hassle the trailer builder first thing tomorrow... will need it for my 4 hour trip (each way) to pick up the TI.

Any Aussies got any pics yet? Or will it be up to me this weekend. Will probably only get to the Nepean River though...

Cowsgomoo, I was out on the harbour but up in Bantry Bay. Mate I was with remarked several times on how unnaturally still it was... haha. Still, good conditions to familiarise ourselves with the boat. Launched off a pier and realised we forget to unroll the tramps. It's a bit fiddly doing them afterwards!

The TI attracted a few admiring glances including one guy who seemed to be familiar with the AI, and whose mind also seemed to be blown: "But... it has two seats!"

captain-max: you're talking like I was last week. Boat came in and trailer was delayed nearly THREE WEEKS after its arrival. Mega frustrating. Trust me - once you have it, you'll forget all about the wait... and start shouting at the weather instead. Sigh.

I can get half excited.

I picked up a new AI (red with grey tramps) today from Mal @ Sunstate Hobie. Also got a Rack 'n Roll which makes single handed load/unloading a piece of cake.

Will be sailing her on the Sunshine Coast. When I got home from picking it up I found I had an 8' python on the back deck (house, not boat) and the new boat is currently sitting on the Trax under the deck downstairs. Might be my first passenger ?

Impress your friends... use the python as a tiller extension.

There's nothing better than a new boat, except perhaps a new boat that is easier to deploy than your old one!

Glad it's Red too, those Yella Fella's are for guys that let their wife choose the colour.

Yep, and got the grey tramps to match my salt 'n pepper (although the salt's quickly overtaking the pepper).

Took it for a first sail yesterday and did the obligatory...."I know what I'm doing....done it a hundred times" on the beach as an assortment of onlookers looked on (as they do). Then got about 100 metres out and did a quick check around to see what I'd missed. :?
