So Im watching this video on the Hobie site and it looks like at one point (01:02) when they are leaving the beach that one person is pedaling and it is going backwards. Os there a reverse on the mirage drive? or does it fit in backwards as well? just curious... http://www.hobiecat.com/videos/1015/ |

It does look like that. My guess is they put the drive in backwards just to get away from the beach. |

Well spotted Kev. Yep, looks like they did. If you 'pause' around the 1min 13sec mark when the camera comes out of the water you will see that the drive is reversed. ( Why haven't I ever tried that ? ) These blokes do spot on clips hey ? Brilliant stuff ! |

We were in a rush to get our little inflatable i14t away from the beach one day and my wife jumped in the front seat and jammed the drive in and started pedalling while I held the stern so that the rudder didn't hit the bottom. I was astounded to feel the boat trying to move in reverse. Yep....in her hurry to get in and get the boat moving away from the beach she had put the drive in backwards. It caused a lot of confusion at the time, but I could see that it could be useful in backing out of a slip or canal without room to turn around. |

I noticed it too but I didn't think of posting the question (I guess I decided it was an optical illusion ![]() |
