Hi, Can't seem to find the info in the Hobie catalog or A.I. FAQ... Exactly how long (cm) are the A.I. AMAS? Cheers, Mike. |

My '09 AI amas measure 105-3/8" (267.653 cm) long at 32.8 degrees F. |

Thanks very much for the reply... Can't get any more accurate than that! I'm trying to figure out if the AMAS will fit inside my car - a little Kia Rio hatchback ![]() Thanks again, Mike. |

If you're planning on roof-racking the boat, it's quite possible, though a bit less convenient, to tie the amas up on the racks with the hull. |

Sorry Mike, I'll bet my left nut it won't fit. Like Chris, mine just fit in my Mazda Tribute ( about the same size as a Forester ) with the bow up on the dash touching the windscreen and the stern about 100mm from the rear window. And both the Tribute and the Forester are longer than the Rio. |

I've had two ama's inside of our Honda Civic, but just because they fit doesn't mean it's easiest. It's probably easiest to put them on the roof. Is there a reason that you don't want them on the roof? Sometimes if you share what you're thinking, the people on the forums can help with roof rack solutions, or other issues. |

Get both of mine inside of an Elantra with room to spare. It feels safer than strapping them on to the racks next to hull. My racks are not very wide. They might go up there but they would be closer to the edge than I am comfortable with. Ted |

I'm able to put a Revolution and my AI on top of the same Civic including sail, and two ama's. The trick is getting the right type of kayak rack, and then fastening the Ama's to the top of the boat. I've posted the picture in other threads a few times, so instead of posting the pic again, you can see it by clicking the link below. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs225.snc4/38564_418841629157_508759157_4501632_349618_n.jpg |

Your racks aren't any wider than mine, but those nice saddles, that extend out past the end of the racks, make your arrangement possible. I have been riding by boat on the gunwales and haven't been motivated enough to go for some nicer saddles, even if they would fit my unusual racks. It easier to just though them into the car. Not that good for the car - getting salt and sand inside, but the cars a though away - the boat's a keeper. Of course, if I want to take a pasanger, I'll have to put the amas on top. Ted |

Thanks for the replies... I just like to keep as much stuff in the car - just me I guess! I've tested it out and (slightly amazingly) I can fit the AMAS inside my Kia Rio (2003) hatch-back! Of course it means I can only fit on passenger (in one of the back seats), but 99.9% of the time I go out on my own... ![]() Now all I need is to find an A.I. and I'm just about set! Cheers, Mike. |

The last thing I want to do is pull my ama's out of storage just to see a fellow Hobie owner lose a nut. ![]() Besides, if my wife catches a glimpse of me trying to load my boat in the car in the middle of the winter, I may be the one losing a nut! |
