Hello all, I've been talking about doing a long haul on an AI. I've decided to test it by trying to go from Miami to Montreal following the coast and using the Intracoastal when necessary. If I can pull this off with relative ease, I'll start talking about a long haul. I'm in Florida right now to do the initial tests. I'll do some spearfishing in Fort Lauderdale for a few days then I'll head to the Everglades and the Keys to see how my stuff holds up. I plan to head north somewhere beginning of march. I started a blog http://miami2montreal.wordpress.com/. If you want to join me along the way, both physically or on the blog, I will really appreciate it. I'll have three cameras, a computer and 3g capabilities since i also want to test the communication aspect. Hybrid Marine in Lancaster Ontario is sponsoring this venture. I'm still open to anyone who want to put advertisement on my kayak or the blog. |

Duuuude ... thats just totally crazy !! and this is a test for a future "Long Haul" trip ? you're not talking about an ocean crossing, are you ? I'll follow your blog and I'd def. like to join you on your way up the Hudson for a day sail (I'm in the NYC area) ... or will you be going up through Lake Champlain to get to Montreal ? I vacation up there (Mom-in law has a house in Port Kent on the water). ... hope you've found a verrrrry cumfy seat |

Rene, We are going to "redo" our Flamingo to Chokoloskee trip which we "aborted" a little over 2 weeks ago. You are welcome to join us. We will leave from Flamingo at the marina at about 11 am on Feb 7. We plan to finish the trip in Chokoloskee at about 12:30 PM, Feb 13. If you join us, I will see that you get back to Flamingo to pick up your car or whatever you leave there. We have extra time to complete the trip in case we run into serious adverse conditions. There is no spear fishing in ENP unless you are looking to take crocs, gators, sharks, or Goliath grouper (protected). We have 3 AIs doing the trip. You can read about our previous trip at http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=7276&p=134668&sid=0251b9bf8940172784b45af8b8f077a9#p134668 Keith |

That's insane, but AWESOME! Too bad your journey doesn't take you through Lake Ontario, I'd love to join you for a stretch. |

Rene, Since you are car-topping your boat, I need to talk w/ you. You can email me at kwellma at bellsouth dot net or give me a call at 305-666-4184, so that I can get the logistics taken care of. On this trip you need to bring 7 gal of water + food, gear, etc. Keith |

Rene, What a cool adventure! I agree with PassWind. If Miami to Montreal is just a "test", we're curious how you define a "long haul"? Several of us AI/TIs might be able to sail out in the ocean and tag along as you sail north through Florida's Palm Beach and Martin counties. Keep us posted. |

We'll have to devise a way of setting up these impromptu meetings. It's a "I'll be where I'm at when I'm there" sort of thing but I'm sure I will be possible to join up all along the way. Oh, and if any of you happens to have a beach side mansion maybe you can let me pitch my tent on your property ![]() ![]() |

I posted this on the wrong thread previously... Ok, so I'm on my way to Montreal and now I have to slow down. Against all that I've learned in my trials... 20 miles is a slow day 50 miles is a good day. I'm going way too fast. ![]() |
