Upon installing the Mirage drive into the ‘Click and Go’, should there be any play in the connection ? I have just converted to this from the previous ‘twist cams’ and found that there is about 2 to 4mm of play in the connection between where the Mirage Drive lugs seat and touch the hull at the front and back. Ie: the Mirage Drive rocks slightly forward and aft around the shaft. The connection doesn’t feel firm and positive. Is this right ? |

I haven't seen a Clink-N-Go that rocks, but on an early twist cam AI I did, and we put a 1/2" piece of garden hose on the front 'nose' to take up the slack. |

Two out of three of our C&Gs rock. The rotomolding process results in a slight variation from boat to boat because of shrinkage due to cooling. Hobie deliberately builds this factor in to insure solid side-to-side contact (vital for a positive lock-up). When pedaling, the Drive is always supported at the front and both sides so rocking is not an operational factor. Bob's solution is an easy way to take up the slack if it bothers you.

Thanks fellas. I had the same play with the 'twist cams' Bob, so just wrapped tape around the lug until it took up the gap. Then when I got this new 'click and go' and it had the same gap I thought that perhaps the play is suppose to be there. You're right though RR, with all the forward thrust, it's a 3 point contact so it shouldn't be an issue. Perhaps the gap helps with the installation and removal of the drive ? |
