Post subject:  Mounting a mid sized gps/sounder flush mount to the AI hull

Hiyas
I've looked at numerous mounts of a gps/sounder units here and on
http://yakass.net/
He has mounted his unit on the front crossbar on the Port side. Looks good, yet an in dash mount seems more preferable.
If one was to flush mount a mid sized unit offered by Lowrance, Humminbird or Garmin on the vertical surface below (or offset to) the mast mount, would this compromise the structural integrity of the AI or the TI?
I can understand mounting a Richie compass with a 2.125" hole but what about Width 6.9 in \ 174 mm X Height 5.4 in \ 136 mm, just as the Lowrance elite 5.
I understand that the turnbuckle system in the hull takes the stress of the mast flex and weight. However, how much does the 'bulkhead' in front of the Mirage Drive matter to possibly allow such an installation as I've suggested?
Thanks for any response -)

Don't think I'd do that to mine. Just my opinion though. That would be too big a hole for me to go cutting into the hull. Also, what happens if you change GPS/Fishfinders for some reason and the new one doesn't fit in the hole?
