Post subject: | Tiller post through-hull fitting becomming weak. |
I have had my TI out about 25 times and about a third of these outings in pretty good wind. I am finding that the though-hull plastic receptacle for the tiller post is becomming worn and the tiller loose. This hole is part of the moulded hull itself. It will only be a matter of time before the tiller is useless. It seems that this area should be beefed up in the moulding process for new boats and some type of bushing be installed to buffer the steel vertical tiller post from the plastic hull. Too late for me. Has anyone experienced this problem or come up with some type of bracket/plate with a steel receptacle for the tiller post? |

Maybe your steering lines are too tight? Should not be a lot of load on the area. We have brass bushings on current production, but that was more to do with keeping the tiller in column. |

In another post... you said you purchased an AI. Is it the Adventure Island or do you somehow also own a new Tandem Island that you are having this issue on? I suspect you are referring to the used Adventure Island you purchased... correct? |
